First held in in 1992, this is the very first festival of its kind in the Czech Republic. Responding to the constant demand from audiences for concerts of sacred music thematically linked with Easter – an important period of the liturgical year – the Easter Festival of Sacred Music remains unique in Central Europe, an international project dedicated solely to sacred music that showcases novel programming and outstanding performances.
The Easter Festival of Sacred Music is held every year in the churches of Brno. Among the festival’s other objectives, it aims to unearth unjustifiably neglected music and commission new sacred works. A key point of departure for its programmes is provided by the festival’s closeness to the most important Christian holiday, taking place between Palm Sunday and the Second Sunday of Easter. The festival is a member of the Czech Festivals Association (CZAF).
