piano Steffen Schleiermacher

Steffen Schleiermacher, the German pianist, is distinguished by his wide-ranging repertoire and his tireless efforts to draw attention to the lesser-known chapters of the modern history of music. Among other projects, this has led him to a thoroughgoing survey of pre-war Russian (Soviet) and Czech modernism, the results of which he released on the CDs Soviet Avant-Garde I, II (Hat Hut Records, 1994 and 1998) and Czech Avantgarde. Piano Music 1918–1938 (MDG, 2002). This evening’s programme is informed by this study.
