Seventy years of the Janáček Quartet
When Jiří Trávníček, Miroslav Matyáš, Jiří Kratochvíl and Karel Krafka formed the Janáček Quartet in 1947, it was at a happy moment when a new generation of chamber musicians were establishing themselves. The group was among those that began by creating a new performance style and initiating a new era in chamber music interpretation. Seventy years later, the Quartet faces a new task in a confused world full of contradictory intellectual movements: to point their audiences towards the most positive values of our cultural heritage in the hope that these values will help their listeners find a personal identity and a positive way forward in their lives.
