CORNELIUS CARDEW Treatise (1963–1967)

AMM: Edwin Prévost drums and percussion, Keith Rowe guitar, radio, electronics

The legendary British free improvisation group, AMM, founded in 1963 in London, will perform with most of their original members: Eddie Prévost, John Tilbury and Keith Rowe. On the programme is a segment of the longest graphic musical score in the world, Treatise, the cult work by the British musical reformer, Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981). Written in 1967, it will be played in Brno almost fifty years after its inception.
As the pianist, John Tilbury, has been taken ill, the ensemble AMM will perform in a duo. Tonight’s performance of Cardew’s piece will therefore be diff erent from the version for trio, as refl ected in the title of the concert: AMM – a response to Treatise.

Admission in advance of CZK 100, on the spot 110 CZK.

There is no doubt that the history of art is largely a story of interpretation. Graphically-notated music is an extraordinary genre: it reveals the pitfalls and limitations of traditional notation and its inability to visually represent the sounds of every type of music (and, in particular, of contemporary music), but it also demonstrates the complementary connections between conceptual symbolic forms, and shifts music and visual expression towards spatio-temporal intermedia. Miroslav Ponc’s (1902-1976) colour music is an excellent example.

Admission CZK 50 in advance, on the spot for CZK 60.

chamber concert

The programme of the concert by ISHA trio presents various innovative methods of composition and performance on traditional instruments. Some of these works have become classics and we wish to show that these are not experiments, provocations or rebellions, but often very virtuosic and beautiful compositions.

Admission in advance of CZK 100, on the spot 110 CZK.
